The MHP Chain
The MHP chain is divided into the following
elements:
1. Content producer
MHP applications are what attracts viewers
(users), and they are the heart of any successful interactive
television system. MHP applications are produced by a
"Content Producer", and can be games, navigators, EPGs,
enhanced information services, educational applications,
etc.
2. MHP broadcaster
MHP applications can be, and often are,
linked to broadcast services, such as games, events, etc.,
and the applications need to be aggregated into a service
which is offered to the consumer - hence the "MHP" broadcaster.
Typically, this is the public face of the MHP offering
- where the applications developed by the content producers
are brought together.
3. MHP network operator
In many cases, the MHP broadcaster WILL
BE the MHP network operator, but in some cases, e.g. satellite
delivery, the network operator may not be the broadcaster.
MHP applications could be aggregated by
the network operator prior to uplink to a satellite for
example.
4. MHP terminal equipment vendor
The most important element of the MHP
chain is the terminal, or set-top-box, on which the MHP
applications will run. This terminal is the public face
of MHP - the user will use his remote control and set-top-box
to navigate through the MHP applications.
